First, I want to thank Jason for sending me the winder. I was very curious after reviewing his website and the new technology behind these products. If more of our sponsors would do this, they would be afforded the opportunity to have members here review and evaluate their products in a very honest and forthright manner. I am hopeful that other sponsors will see this benefit to their bottom line and provide us products to review and evaluate.
I have to say that when I unpacked the dual winder, I was extremely amazed at the weight, quality of build and looks of this piece of furniture. For a dual winder, it is big, heavy and a beauty to look at. From the finely finished wood cabinet to the style of the piece (like a finely crafted jewelry box) to the very heavy glass door (with locking mechanism) I was thoroughly impressed.
I decided to do something I never do---read the manual before setting it up and running it through its paces. The manual is very well written, very explanatory and SHORT! Something I like in manuals---if and when I ever even bother reading them.
The setup is very quick, very straight forward--the USB connection takes care of just about everything--you just need to set the turns per day (TPD) and the rotation direction (CW, CCW or both). Then you click to confirm your choices and that's it! No fiddling with settings other than those 2. Took a total of about 2 minutes, including installing the software which is completely Windows based. Once screen and you’re done.
The winder will operate on either USB power or with the included, direct current (DC) power adaptor. Since I have a winder cabinet, I prefer the A/C adaptor.
As Jason has pointed out to me earlier, the "pillow" system used for his winders is very unique also. Not just some flimsy foam pillow that you have to stuff into the unit. These are very well designed retaining systems where only the center portion is padded; the rest is a well crafted housing that allows you to expand or contract the retainer to hold virtually any size watch/bracelet/strap. I would venture to say that no watch is too small or too large to fit comfortably onto these retainers. And does the unit hold the retainer snugly??? Absolutely! Since the holders are in a vertical position, there is NO movement of the watch within the retainer. It is held tightly to the retainer without any wiggle at all, regardless of the size of the watch.
One of the exciting features of this unit is the LED readouts on the front of the cabinet. 2 independent winders with 2 separate LED readouts. It rotates between the TPD, total turns and elapsed time during the 24 hour period. Very cool looking with the green LED readouts. Of course, you can turn the LED readouts off if you prefer---say it was in your bedroom---but I really like the "cool" factor in having these on.
As mentioned above, the glass door on this unit is not a cheap Plexiglas or even cheap glass---it's thick, tempered glass and therefore is attached with 2 (upper and lower) swinging hinges in chrome finish. The locking mechanism isn't something they skimped on either---it's a very heavy duty lock with, believe it or not, keys that don't look like a suitcase key---they are actually keyed to the lock like other more expensive locks.
The piano finish on my winder is simply gorgeous. No attention to detail was spared and the cabinet itself is finely detailed right down to the scalloped base. Many winder dealers brag about their "hand finished" cabinets but I must say, compared to my other winders, this one far exceeds the quality of the finish of them. And this winder is not made of particle board or cardboard! Its solid wood manufacture makes for a much more stable and long lasting piece.
My unit came with a drawer for storing up to 3 non-winding watches or other jewelry. In addition, the drawer is inside the winder, behind the glass doors. In my opinion, this is a plus--leaving a very smooth, clean look to the outside of the cabinet.
While I've only had the winder for less than 24 hours, I've changed out about 8 watches to test the ability of it to operate any size watch with any kind of bracelet/strap combination.
Did I mention the ability of this winder to operate in complete silence???? What an amazing accomplishment in that there is no, none, nada, sound coming from the winder, with the glass door open or closed. My one pet peeve about winders is the annoying sounds they tend to make when operating. Nothing to worry about here-----zero sound! This beauty could sit on your nightstand and you wouldn't know it--that is if you turned off the LED displays!
Since I haven't had this winder long enough to test the durability and its ability to stay silent, I will post a follow-up review after a week or so. But my initial impression is one of complete awe! Everything about it screams quality, fine craftsmanship, attention to detail and very innovative technology. I personally feel Jason has a sure winner here. If I had the financial means to do so, I would replace all my "eBay" winders with these and never look back. As someone who has a closet full of winders--all less than 3 years old---that have died, gotten so noisy that I can't stand to listen to them or only work "sometimes", I would like to be able to go back and spend the money on a few of these rather than a revolving door of cheap winders as I've done. Maybe I can save enough to purchase a couple of these over the next few months. However, I could never make myself spend the money to accommodate all my autos, regardless of price. But the next time I'm in the market for a quality, well manufactured winder, I will go directly to Jason without hesitation. As the world's only software controlled, user programmable winder with the style and beauty of a fine piece of furniture, WindMyWatch has achieved what no other company has to this point----a perfect blend of new technology and old world craftsmanship.
Since Lenexa, Kansas isn't that far from OKC, I would hope to one day be able to visit Jason and his headquarters to learn more about these winders and about the manufacturing process.
But for now, I'm just going to enjoy having this new and unique product in my home and let it take care of a couple of my most prized watches!
Please take a few minutes and visit Jason's website-----http://windmywatch.com/--- and learn about these fantastic products. It will be an enjoyable and educational one for you. I really do think members of BDWF will be providing Jason and his company some well earned business, especially as the word gets out about the quality and craftsmanship of his products. I know I will. Oh, and let Jason know what you think as well as any suggestions you might have for him.
